Mission Statement


​The mission of the Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad is to protect the lives and property of the people of Moneta, Wirtz and Hardy from fires, natural disasters, and hazardous materials incidents; to save lives by providing emergency medical services; to prevent fires through prevention and education programs; and to provide an environment that values health, wellness and cultural diversity and is free of harassment and discrimination.

March Boat Fire

Attack 10, Unit 10, and Med 10 responded with multiple other departments for a reported boat on fire at Indian Point Marina with five people in the water. Units arrived on scene to find a single cabin-cruiser style boat fully involved. EMS units arrived on scene and declared a mass casualty incident and immediately started treating patients. All patients were found to have minor to no injuries. The boat on fire was extinguished and ultimately sunk below the water
